This is the Imperial Japanese Navy Light Cruiser Yubari
Yubari was my 7th try at 3D printing a WW2 warship and not my most ambitious project. Only slightly smaller than Sendai the full hull at 1/450 scale still just fits in XYZmaker’s grid.
Just when I thought I was getting the hang of things I managed to mess up the hull shape. My error was kind of subtle and I didn’t notice it till after printing, the hull was too narrow. I redesigned and reprinted the hull pieces and everything else went pretty smooth.
In the pictures below, the first three parts pictures show the too narrow hull parts, the fourth picture shows the reprints. Also shown, are an XYZmaker design screen shot, initial assembly pictures and a primed shot.
On Yubari, I again used metal rods and wire of various thickness for guns, mast spars, prop shafts and AA barrels. Before finishing Yubari, I put her up for a bit and built IJN Minekaze and liked the way her canvased topped bridge turned out. I thought I’d give Yubari the same treatment. Done!
Update: 2/4/2019
Well that didn’t last long. I discovered that Yubari had 3 prop shafts not 4… Did some minor surgery and while I was at it, figured I’d add full PE rails and rigging. Done again!
